‘Fermenting Utopias’ will explore how our future food habits could be transformed by building on the knowledge, passions and creativity of communities that are excluded from the mainstream. The event will work toward reimagining what our food habits could look like if regulatory influences, institutions and practices could be reshaped by communities on the margins. By drawing out differences and common threads within these utopian imaginaries, the event activities will explore how thinking about food futures can contribute toward exploring challenges facing communities today; as well as the role of the future in bringing together communities. The activities will also enable the research group to reflect on what creative and participative processes are effective in helping communities to imagine new, alternative futures and how best to represent these future views.
